Mayor Pro Tem Maria De Cambra submitted a letter of resignation on Dec. 3, which creates a vacancy on Westminster City Council.
Per Section 5.7(a) of the Westminster City Charter, the City Council now has 30 days (until Jan. 2, 2019) to fill the vacancy.
The process will include soliciting applications from qualified and interested applicants and appointing one of them to fill the unexpired term, which ends in November 2019.
Applications are open now through Wednesday, Dec. 12.
BEFORE APPLYING: Review the application to get a better understanding of the information you'll need to supply.
READY TO APPLY? Once you're ready to commit, please completely fill out the application.
Public interviews with each candidate and City Council will take place on Thursday, Dec. 13 and Friday, Dec. 14. The new councillor will be sworn in on Monday, Dec. 17, which is the last regular City Council meeting in 2018 and before the Jan. 2, 2019, deadline.
A new mayor pro tem will be appointed by City Council during the regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 10.
The De Cambra vacancy will be filled before the process begins to fill two additional vacancies for Councillors Shannon Bird and Emma Pinter. They are resigning in January 2019, following their election to other offices in November. Learn more here.
