FRCC Students Provide FREE Tax Help (Online)
Services will be offered remotely to ensure the safety of all involved.
Westminster, Colo.—IRS-certified students, alumni and community volunteers will prepare and file tax returns free of charge for individuals with household incomes of less than approximately $56,000 a year. Not surprisingly, things will look a little different this year due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic.
FRCC’s Westminster campus tax help site will not be open for in-person tax help this year. But we will offer a new, safe option to access tax assistance starting in February 2021. This option will be available through April 10.

Organizers we will do everything they can to serve as many clients as possible, but please understand that scheduled in-person appointments could be suspended or cancelled with little notice if conditions require.

WHY GET HELP?
This service is designed to help hard-working families become more financially secure. As part of the Tax Help Colorado program, these free tax preparation services are provided through a partnership between Front Range Community College and Denver-based Piton Foundation.
Tax preparation in Colorado can cost as much as $200. In addition to getting their taxes done for free, taxpayers may be eligible for valuable, refundable tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit.
Tax preparers are trained to ensure the families they serve get the best refund possible. If a family earned $56,000 or less last year, it’s likely they qualify for the EITC—which can put up to $6,500 back in their pocket for paying bills, taking care of their children, or paying down debt.
“We’re proud to be saving people money on tax preparation services, and helping them get the best refund possible so they can make ends meet, said Kevin McFarlane, accounting faculty at FRCC-Westminster. “The program also helps students develop customer service skills, achieve practical, hands-on experience, serve their community and earn college credits.”
Despite having to close the site early in 2020 due to the outbreak of COVID-19, FRCC’s IRS-certified volunteers prepared taxes for 512 local taxpayers who received approximately $1 million in federal and state refunds.
