• January National Blood Donor Month

Did you know that every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood and or platelets? You can do your part to help save lives by donating blood. January is National Blood Donor Awareness Month. According to the American Red Cross, winter is “one of the most difficult times of year to collect enough blood products to meet patient needs.” Blood and platelet donations typically decline during the holidays when people are consumed with holiday activities.
According to the World Health Organization, “blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person — the gift of life. A decision to donate your blood can save a life, or even several if your blood is separated into its components — red cells, platelets and plasma.”
If you are eligible and wish to donate blood, contact your local blood bank or the American Red Cross for more information on what’s involved.
