  • Night with a Futurist: Disruptive Technologies, Killer Apps and the Sensor Revolution

Our world is being disrupted by a slew of new technologies that open up opportunities that never before existed. It’s usually one or two killer apps that drive their adoption and growth. In this presentation, we’ll look at a few examples of these disruptive technologies and killer apps; for example AI, virtual reality, robotics and the internet of things and how sensors enable most of them.

By integrating sensors and Internet of Things (IoT) into products, we can turn anything into a smart thing, like buildings, roads, cars, homes and even jewelry. This combination of sensors and IoT will play a dominant role in every aspect of our lives; from autonomous cars communicating with each other in order to avoid collisions to a cat box tweeting it’s owner when it needs to be emptied. On an individual level, this provides us the opportunity to be more than just consumer of new benefits coming our way, we can also be creators.

During this brief presentation, you will see how anyone with minimal hardware and software experience ( no EE degree required) can leverage the vast Maker community to build and experiment with their own sensor based IoT systems; levering Arduinos, sensors, actuators and free, open source cloud services. If you want to see how to become part of this revolution, starting from the ground floor, this presentation is for you.
